Infrastructure: computers and robots
DSME's research targets questions at the intersection of data science and mechanical engineering. To enable state-of-the-art research in data science and machine learning, we are building up excellent IT facilities to provide the necessary computing power. We are also setting up a robotics and cyber-physical systems (CPS) lab. This will allow us to evaluate algorithms on physical hardware platforms, and not only in simulation. At the same time, developing and working with hardware systems will raise new research questions. Through this mutual focus on hardware and software, we seek to advance the understanding and state-of-the art in both data science and mechanical engineering.
We also operate the ZuseLab, one of the largest computer pools in Europe, on behalf of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The ZuseLab provides optimal conditions for computer-assisted teaching, laboratory assignments, and electronic exams.
