Recent research on wireless control of DSME has been presented in the Proceedings of the IEEE, the flagship journal of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

In April 2021, the Proceedings of the IEEE published a special issue on "Leading Information and Communication Technologies for Smart Manufacturing: Facing the New Challenges and Opportunities of the 4th Industrial Revolution." The Proceedings of the IEEE is the flagship journal of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and one of the leading journals on electrical engineering and computer science. This special issue contains an article on "Wireless Control for Smart Manufacturing: Recent Approaches and Open Challenges," contributed by Dominik Baumann and Sebastian Trimpe from the Institute for Data Science in Mechanical Engineering (DSME), together with their collaborators Fabian Mager and Marco Zimmerling (TU Dresden), Ulf Wetzker (Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits Dresden), and Lothar Thiele (ETH Zurich). The article discusses the challenges that practitioners face when trying to incorporate wireless solutions in manufacturing processes, outlines recent approaches for addressing those challenges, including an in-depth discussion of the wireless control research at DSME, and open challenges that have not yet been addressed by the research community. The article is available on IEEEXplore and on arXiv.
